I thoroughly enjoyed creating these two illustrations. They are fairly small, which allowed me to complete them quickly. They are done on toned-grey Strathmore mixed media paper with just graphite and white pencil crayon. 6 x 8 inches.
It was a rewarding process and I am excited to create more drawings featuring the items used or referenced in the books, like arrow fletchings.... coming soon.
So here are two still-life drawings of props featured in scenes from the books. I am sure they will find their way into the illustrated versions!
Best Regards
The Stolen Bailey Key:
This piece is in direct reference to the scene from Book One, The Messenger From Myris Dar, when Rowan is attacked in her room during the night while staying in Pellaris Keep. In the pockets of one of the men who attempt to abduct her, is found a stolen bailey key, pointing ominously to a traitor in their midst...
Manuscripts of Pellaris Library:
Also from Book One, this drawing portrays what I imagine the collection of ancient scrolls and manuscripts might look like as Dalemar and Rowan spend hours pouring over them, looking for an elusive reference to the Slayer of the Wyoraith.
...The ink blots were super fun to do!
